Would you download the UK Government’s Contact Tracing App?

With new trials of the UK Government’s Contact Tracing App proceeding on the Isle of Wight once again, I took to Twitter to ask UK followers: “Would you download the UK Government’s Contact Tracing App?

Personally I don’t think I would download the App. For me it is largely because I don’t trust the people behind the App. After all it was only a few years ago Dido Harding was at the controls of Talk Talk when it fell victim to the biggest data breach on UK soil in modern history.

What did the people of Twitter think?

The survey question was placed on Twitter between 9.56PM (BST) 14th August 2020 – 9.56PM (BST) 16th August 2020. The poll was run with the hashtags: #Covid #Covidiots as these were the two most popular Covid-19 related hashtags in the UK as the time.

The majority of UK residents would not download the UK Governments Tracing App.

It would appear that a staggering 56% of respondents would not download the UK Government’s app. This also validates a recent Guardian article which indicated that only 50% of the population would download the app. Although this poll has that figure at 23.5%, it also revealed that a quarter of respondents were undecided.
