Only Fools and Horses Licensed to Drill, often referred to as ‘The lost episode’ is a short educational episode that was shown in schools in the 1980’s.
The episode has never been broadcast on TV. It was written by John Sullivan and stars David Jason (Del Boy), Nicholas Lyndhurst (Rodney), and Lennard Pearce (Granddad).
The episode was designed to help school children learn about oil. In the episode Del explains to Rodney and Grandad how their future lies in the North Sea Oil fields. He has bought an oil rig off shore for £400.
As you might expect, Del hasn’t quite got his facts right, but I am going to leave the story there. (I mean, I don’t want to spoil what happens).
Where can I see or buy a copy of Only Fools and Horses Licensed to Drill?
The episode has never been broadcast on TV or included in any of the standard VHS or DVD releases. That being said, the official Only Fools and Horses Fan club did release a limited number of DVDs that contain the episode. These are typically only on sale at the Only Fools and Horses annual convention, but you might get lucky on Amazon or eBay every now and then.
