Over the years I always struggled to find an accurate list of UK Counties. In the end, I created my own a few years back. Where things have been changed or I have been advised of a mistake I have updated this list. You are welcome to use the list, should you notice any issue with it, please comment below.
Note: The list focuses on Ceremonial Counties, there are a few different types of ‘County’ in the UK and this sometimes causes different lists around the web.

You have a spelling error with ‘Berkshire’ in the CSV version. Thank you for creating it.

middlesex is missing from you list
Hi there, thanks for your comments. My understanding is that Middlesex is an historic county and not a ceremonial county. 🙂
I’ll be cold in the ground before I recognise Bath & Somerset as a county, it’s just Somerset.
Dorset is missing from the CSV list, and it also shows ‘Powy’ rather than ‘Powys’.

The following two county names have an extra dot “.” at the end.
– “Neath Port Talbot.” rather than “Neath Port Talbot”
– “Newport.” rather than “Newport”

Bath and North East Somerset is a unitary authority, not a county. It’s in the county of Somerset.
And the Isles of Scilly are in Cornwall.
